I was watching a segment on the news a few days ago about out of work over “forty-somethings” working as interns to gain work experiences. They were interning for positions under younger (much younger) men/women.
My hat goes off to these "older" interns! They are a testament to the fact that it is never to late to learn.
Who are you?
* displaced worker
* laid off worker
* looking to improve your career
You too can learn to reach you career goals.
When I went to college it was well before the PC was invented - I had to learn how to use the computer on my own. In 1994 I decided to start a business offering computer training to individuals because I realized if I wanted to learn more, I figured others must want to figure their computers out too. Over the years if I didn't know the answer to a question, I researched it. There is a huge population of our baby boomer generation who assume everyone else knows all there is about using a computer and you are the only one that doesn't.
WRONG! :)
The truth is, most people only know what they have figured out.
Get this-- even recent college graduates don't know how to use computer applications in a business setting. Yes, college graduates could benefit from computer training.
The difference is the younger generation is not afraid to learn; they are highly trainable.
The baby boomers just need to realize they are not the only one out there that doesn't understand how to locate a document they created yesterday. You have to believe you can learn new things!
The good news is that with effective computer training the mountain can be turned into a mole hill. We baby boomers can learn. It is possible. You can even learn how to use Excel - Really!
With our uncertain economy - what each of us should be doing is LEARNING! Education is the key. We need to all be actively learning new skills/information in order to expand our knowledge base, to secure our futures.
I challenge you to take classes, read books, talk to experts, share experiences and knowledge with friends…. No matter your age.
It's never too late to learn!
